Galliano was articulating those adolescent feelings of growing up and not quite fitting into your surroundings with girliness rendered in Polaroid-inspired sepia tones. In the press notes, it said that ?innocence is celebrated? but more than that, this was a collection for the misfits and mavericks out there ? perhaps an allusion to Galliano himself. Imperfections are also celebrated and again, there?s no better designer to bring forth beauty from unexpected places.

Galliano?s debut ready-to-wear collection for the newly renamed Maison Margiela was a brilliant, bold and marginally unsettling study of character; a spectacular unison of his renowned theatrical flair tailored to the masterful modernism and understatement of the house. ?I wanted it to look as if those girls had walked out onto the wrong runway,? he explained.

from Abstract to Non-Figuration \Patrick Heron

The first of Heron's 'stripe' paintings to be seen in public was Horizontal, one of those made in the extraordinary burst of March, 1957.

download.php?file=1600068&embedded=1&textbox=1600103

The implications of his own vehemence here are unequivocal: Heron was of the converted. In the clearest terms possible this is a critical acknowledgment of the significance at that moment in history of New York painting.

Again, a painting is not something which exists in order to convey meaning; on the contrary, 'meaning' is something which attache itself to that independent, autonomous object which is a picture' .

download.php?file=1600078&embedded=1&textbox=1600103

This play with two or three distinct types of pictorial space -- perspectival, atmospheric, relative -with varying registers of depth and shallowness -was to be a vital aspect of Heron's painting from now on, a functional dynamic in the complex visual music of his art. Colour and the arrangement of color-shapes; chromatic and tonal variations; the infinitely expressive repertoire of brushwork and over-painting, stroke and mark, impasto, scribble and wash; these were the other elements of a more complex kind of composition.

download.php?file=1600107&embedded=1&textbox=1600103 Heron's commitment to the idea of the painting as an autonomous object, conterminous with the image it carried, had been confirmed by his idiosyncratic, and somewhat ambivalent, reading of recent American painting.

The film and each of its vignettes revolve closely around the theme of death. It was Kitano's intent to show death as neither good nor bad but a relative event. In an interview, Kitano stated, "The reason why modern Japanese and Westerners loathe the notion of death so much is beyond me. There really is no reason to loathe death," adding, "How you perceive this film can considerably differ depending on the position where you stand."

Jean?Michel Basquiat, was one of the most important American artists of the 20th century.Basquiat's art focused on "suggestive dichotomies", such as wealth versus poverty, integration versus segregation, and inner versus outer experience

Basquiat used social commentary in his paintings as a "springboard to deeper truths about the individual",as well as attacks on power structures and systems of racism, while his poetics were acutely political and direct in their criticism of colonialism and support forclass struggle.

The sexual revolution that began in the 1960s ushered in an era of free love. Birth control pills irrevocably cut the cord between sex and reproduction for straight people. Gay liberation and the blossoming of gay life brought about the flowering of the gay male sexual subculture. The pleasure dome that came into being in our puritanical culture was an amazing thing to behold. Sexuality was now not just an uncontrollable urge, but an artistic expression.

We began to understand how the ties that bound us sexually also shackled our minds. We began to understand that sexuality didn?t need to be whispered about?it could be publicly acknowledged and enjoyed. Suddenly there were sex manuals galore; there was legal porn, bikinis, nude beaches and micro-mini skirts.

Sex outside of marriage was no longer taboo. Diversity in sexual expression as well as relationships became the norm, not the exception. There were unexpected consequences, good and bad. But one thing is fairly certain; we are not putting the genie back in the bottle. Adults expect to have satisfying sex lives, and with the help of magic ED pills, men can extend their enjoyment indefinitely.

Christo and jeanne-Claude

Christo Vladimirov Javacheff and Jeanne-Claude, were a married couple who created environmental works of art. Christo and Jeanne-Claude were born on the same day, June 13, 1935; They first met in Paris in October 1958. They then fell in love by creating art work together.

Although their work is visually impressive and often controversial as a result of its scale, the artists have repeatedly denied that their projects contain any deeper meaning than their immediate aesthetic impact. The purpose of their art, they contend, is simply to create works of art for joy and beauty and to create new ways of seeing familiar landscapes. Art critic David Bourdon has described Christo's wrappings as a "revelation through concealment." To his critics Christo replies, "I am an artist, and I have to have courage ... Do you know that I don't have any artworks that exist? They all go away when they're finished. Only the preparatory drawings, and collages are left, giving my works an almost legendary character. I think it takes much greater courage to create things to be gone than to create things that will remain.

Thomas Hirschhorn

Thomas Hirschhorn (born in 1957, Bern, Switzerland) lives and works in Paris. Since the 1980s, the former graphic designer has evolved a radical sculptural installation practice.

In his explanation of In-Between, he states: "The aesthetic of In-Between borrows from pictures of destruction-destruction by violence, by war, by accident, by nature, by structural failures, by corruption, by fatality. I want to es

tablish a body of work which encompasses Antonio Gramsci's quote. Without being anecdotic or literal, I can testify that to set-up a work in an exhibition space which gives form to destruction is indeed as difficult as anything else. With In-Between I want to create a new form, I want to propose an experience, an art-experience in the range of 'successes?, failures and in-betweens.?

Das Auge (The Eye) is one of Thomas Hirschhorn?s largest and most visceral sculptural installations.Hirschhorn is renowned for his sprawling, immersive artworks that use everyday materials, found images from the news and mass media, and impassioned graffiti-like texts to engage audiences in actively thinking about politics and philosophy. Hirschhorn is interested in the aesthetics of political protest ? slogans, placards, provocative photos ? and in moving people to think and act critically in the world.

Korean ''HaeTae''

download.php?file=1619556&embedded=1&textbox=1619541

According to Korean records, Haetae's body is shaped like a lion and has a horn on its forehead. It has a bell in its neck, and the body is covered with scales. It lives in the frontier areas of Manchuria.

In ancient Korea, Haetae sculptures were used in architecture during the early Joseon dynasty, as their image was trusted to be able to protect Hanyang (now Seoul) from natural disasters and to give law and order among the populace.

In English, it is called "the Unicorn-lion" or "an omniscient mythical beast".

contrast world-wide roof greening and korean's

green rooftops. Long popular in Europe, green rooftops have begun to appeal to homeowners, businesses and even cities as an attractive way to promote environmentalism while solving the problems of conventional roofs.

On a wider scale, green roofs improve air quality and help reduce the Urban Heat Island Effect, a condition in which city and suburban developments absorb and trap heat.

The geology of the Moon (sometimes called selenology, although the latter term can refer more generally to "lunar science") is quite different from that of Earth. The Moon lacks a significant atmosphere, which eliminates erosion due to weather; it does not have any form of plate tectonics, it has a lower gravity, and because of its small size, it cooled more rapidly.

The surface of the Moon has two hemispheres with rather asymmetric properties; as a consequence the nature of the Lunar surface that we can see from the Earth is substantially different from the surface that is always hidden from the Earth.

For many in the lecture today the 1960s which unleashed the so called sexual revolution seems more a source of comic relief and tragic nostalgic recirculation than political inspiration.

  • Sexuality became political, emerging as an axis around which new social movements organised.Shifts in the relations between women and men, particularly those inspired by the emergent women’s liberation movements. This parallels women’s increased presence in the public realm and personal autonomy concerning reproductive choices and sexual expression.
  • The political mobilisation of the gay & lesbian movements.
  • Reforms in the legal and medical regulation of sexuality

Changes in Values

In the midst of the civil rights and anti-war movements, the young generation of the 1960s questioned authority and rejected their parents' values. For many who came of age in this era, the traditional notion that a woman wouldn't be able to find a husband if she weren't a virgin was absurd.
